TULSA, Okla., October 17, 2018 — AIRIS Wellsite Services has earned OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification and is now a STAR facility. This is OSHA’s official way of recognizing the outstanding efforts and results AIRIS has achieved in exemplary occupational safety and health.
“AIRIS has always taken safety to the next level for our clients,” said Arthur Smith, HSE manager for AIRIS, “earning OSHA’s star-level VPP certification makes it official.”
The program was created in 1982 to improve occupational health and safety. The United States Department of Labor’s website states the VPP is intended to “promote effective worksite-based safety and health.” According to the site, those certified have a “Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) case rate of 52% below the average for its industry.”
Becoming certified is a rigorous process, beginning when an employer submits its application to OSHA. If the application is accepted, a meticulous onsite evaluation by a team of safety and health professionals takes place, focusing on management leadership and employee involvement; worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control; and safety and health training. Once accepted, sites must allow for re-evaluation every three to five years.
Smith continued by explaining that for the VPP certification process, AIRIS had to demonstrate not only that their injury and illness rates were well below the national averages but also that AIRIS’ programs were effective in promoting a safe and healthy workplace. The effectiveness of their programs was then tested in a comprehensive onsite evaluation and no stone was left unturned.
“A core value of AIRIS is to safeguard and protect irreplaceable assets — people. Earning our VPP certification was the natural next step for us to demonstrate how seriously we take safety,” said Smith. “Our clients can trust that we have literally been put to the test and are the top service provider for ensuring harm-free wellsites.”
